Awesome Sneaker inspiration from Teen Vogue October 2010. I am coveting it all!
With all these interviews I have told very little about myself and I was wondering if there is anything particular you would like to know. Comment or email me at elizaanbeth@aim.com. I would love to hear froin m you.
You guessed it....another lovely lady! Katie from Dolly Bird...
Tell us about yourself... My name is Katie. I live in Chicago where I create jewelry out of my own independent studio. I have an undying admiration for Mother Nature, Music, and anything Bold.
How did you discover jewelry making? Thankfully, I discovered the art of making jewelry when I was a trend designer working for a wholesale jewelry company. Frustrated with high-volume and inexpensive mass-produced goods, I took night classes and learned craftmenship by the workbench. Becoming obsessed with creating with a torch and metal.
What do you love about it? I love never having to do the same thing twice.
What are your favorite pieces? Usually, I don't have favorites. Although each piece of art has its own little story which means I was inspired. I can tell you a how I was inspired in a few instances:
There are certain things one remembers as a child that we can take with us forever in time. I recall my 5th grade field trip to the planetarium. The little dipper and alignment of the stars magically came together in pure, natural harmony, total innocence in a sense of beauty. I'd like to think this is what much of my work represents to people.
Today the Marionette necklace is one of my favorites. Much of my creativity comes from a certain naivety and sometimes is completely unplanned. When I see each piece finished, they become links to little stories in my mind.
Have a wonderful day filled with lots of inspiration!
These photos are from a series by Lissy Laricchia called "Get Back In Your Book." I don't want to brag, but I have to admit I have never forgotten about a book. I always finish every book I start from cover to cover. I am currently reading The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls. Have you read it? What did you think?
What are you reading right now? I would love to hear from you: comment or email me at elizaandbeth@aim.com.
Hi everyone! Guess what.........I GOT GLASSES! It turns out I am nearsighted in both eyes, more in my left than in my right. I got brown Prada glasses. (pictured below)
Happy Wednesday! I am proud to introduce the second lovely lady in my interview series, drum roll please...Hailey from Ozetta. Yippee! Ozetta makes beautiful hand-knit scarves, hats, and accessories. Enjoy!
1. Tell us about yourself... Hi everyone, I'm Hailey! I live in the United States in a small town in Oklahoma where there are beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I married my high school sweetheart, Nick and we were blessed in October with a little boy named Easton Hank. I started crocheting when I was ten years old, but took a long break from it to learn how to knit. However, crocheting is my true passion. I enjoy reading, writing, creating. Running Ozetta full time has been one of the best career moves I have ever taken on.
Here is a list of things I love:
Rainy days
Fall and winter
Jeans and a t-shirt
Tea and root beer
Small cities and countries
Christmas lights and chocolate-covered pretzels
Mazes and mysteries
Smiling and singing
Photography and home videos
Watermelon and oranges
Most of all I love being able to be myself. This was something that took me forever to figure out.
2. How did you discover knitting? Ozetta handmade knits is inspired by my great grandmother. My grandmother taught me how to crochet. More importantly, she led by example showing me that doing what I loved would make me happy. Ultimately, I am happiest when I am creating and sending my creations off to people in the world.
3. What do you love about it?
I love running my shop and making hand-knit creations because I know that my Ozetta pieces will keep someone warm, yet stylish through the cold months. It is a joy to create each piece from start to finish, package it up, and send it off to a customer. I love when I receive an appreciation photo with feedback. You see me in my shop wearing the accessories and it is so exciting to see the item I created with my hands on someone else.
4.What are your favorite pieces?
Since is so hard to choose my favorite pieces, I will focus on some of the most challenging projects. I was inspired by chevron patterns and wanted to create a textural piece in the Aztec Cowl. I love the design it creates and it looks so different from anything else seen on the streets.
The next piece is the Colwood Tote. I wanted to create a sturdy tote that was highly durable yet soft. I love it because it has a great shape to it and carries things wonderfully.
